Change security at folder level. Never set security on items in a folder
If an item in the folder needs different security create another folder and move the item needing different security rights into this folder. In SSRS Security Manager if a folder is displayed as yellow there is one or more items with different security in the folder.
Create windows groups for specific SSRS roles. Add users to the group requiring specific role access
Where possible permission folders to groups not users
