Restore Report Subscriptions

Scroll Prev Top Next More

The restore of report subscriptions can be for one or more reports, there is a one click restore all

SSRS Subscriptions will need to be restored for several reasons.

Migration to a new server

Subscription accidentally deleted. This is easier than you think. With the non obvious subscription descriptions you can inadvertently delete the wrong subscription.

Deployment of a new report.  Deleting the old report first and deploying a new report will delete all subscriptions associated with the old report.

Overwriting the old report with a new report that has different parameters, for example renamed parameters, deleted parameters or new parameters.

Changing the execution time of the subscription can be a painful process if each subscription is edited one by one. By backing up and then restoring a bulk change in execution times can be achieved.

Adding new subscriptions to a report is easy, you have the option to delete current subscriptions before restoring the new subscriptions, alternatively you can simply keep the current subscriptions and append new subscriptions to the report.

See restore subscriptions for more details.

Notes

1.Only reports with the same naming excel file will be restored from the folder. The folder structure will mirror the report server structure.

2.Selecting the Delete current subscriptions checkbox will delete all subscriptions for a report before they are restored.

3.If a report is selected and it does not have an Excel file to restore subscriptions a warning will be displayed in the log unless checked Hide warnings for reports with no XLS

4.The username and password need to be supplied for the restoration of a subscription. There are two options here with both having advantages and disadvantages. The password is used for the subscription, for example the username and password for a file share.

The Excel file is not secure and the password would be stored in an unencrypted format

Specify username and password. The restoration of the subscription will use the username and password here

Secure Password

Only one username and password can be stored. As an alternative you could use multiple excel files and group together items requiring the same username and password and append to the current subscriptions by not checking the box Delete current subscriptions (box 2)
